About the Organisation

Bhimgaura headwork was constructed in 1854 on Ganga river near Haridwar to provide irrigation facility in western Uttar Pradesh through upper ganga canal along with few part of district Kanpur and Fatehpur by Kanpur Branch and Etawah Branch. During the 1866 drought, scarcity of water occurred in lower portion of Upper Ganga Canal System, hence to resolve this problem, a diversion weir was constructed in 1878 on Ganga River at Narora in Bulandshahar District, In addition to this Farrukhabad branch, Bwear Branch and Bhognipur Branch along with remodelling of Kanpur Branch and Etawah Branch were also constructed.

Meanwhile Ramganga multipurpose project had been started. For utilization of Ramaganga river water in Lower Ganga Canal System, it was decided to construct Narora barrage which was completed in 1968. After completion of Ramaganga Project in 1978, 8500 cusec was supplied to Lower Ganga Canal System.

In year 1982 Parallel lower ganga canal was also constructed of 4200 cusec Capacity hence total 12700 cusec water is being supplied through LGC & Parallel Lower Ganga Canal both in Kharif crop which increases Kharif PCA from 34% to 41.5% Before completion of Ramaganga project, few portion of District Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat and Fatehpur were irrigated through Fatehpur Branch which offtake from the tail of Kanpur Branch. Under the Ramaganga Project western Prayagraj Branch was also constructed during 1978-79 to increase irrigation potential of District Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat and Fatepur.

In Lower Ganga Canal Cammand 02 pump canal i.e., Jarauli Pump Canal and Kishanpur Pump Canal has been constructed in district Fatehpur and Kaushambi each having 420 cusec capacity. These two pump canal are equipped with seven pumps and one stanby having capacity 60 cusec of each pump. The Kishanpur Pump Canal is contructed at left bank of Yamuna River near Kishanpur village. Total length and CCA of this system is 264.770 Km. and 38446 hectare respectively. The jarauli Pump Canal is constructed at left bank of Yamuna River near Ajhikotwa village to feed Fatepur Branch at Km. 116.000 through 4.800 Km feeder channel for providing irrigation facility in tail portion of Fatehpur Branch. After the constr5uction of both pump canals, sufficient irrigation facility is even not available in District Fatehpur and Kaushambhi. So Bhaitaura Pump canal project of 400 cusec capacity is proposed at right bank of river Ganga in block Bhitaura, District Fatehpur. The Bhitaura Pump canal project is under scrutiny at Central water Commission New Delhi.

Now in Ramganga organization, Banahal Block in disctict Mainpuri, Shekhpurhatwant, Khaigargh block in district Firozabad and Talgram and Jalalabad block in district Kannauj are now in , Dark-zone, hence following projects are under construction.

  • Barnahal Naveen Nahar project for Barnahal Block in district Mainpuri.
